Your name: Beca De Carlo
Tell me about your children
Jade 10, Tiehj 8 and Pleaides 7 – Jade is a great meditator, she always smoothes things out between people, she is loves performing in the circus and is amazing at maths. Tiehj is always singing, dancing and up a tree at the tippy tippy top freaking out anyone watching. Pleaides has more talent in his little pinky when it comes to any sport than I could hope to have after a lifetimes practice, he is also totally empathetic and shares everything he has without asking – which is so beautiful to see.
Where do you live? Mullumbimby, Australia
PC or Mac? PC
Tell us about your business
I have 2 businesses – That Crystal Site and Fertile Mama – the 2nd formed out of the 1st.
What motivated you to become a mumpreneur?
I have always been a crystal junkie and when I fell pregnant with Jade I wanted to be there for all the firsts that come with a baby, I didn’t want her to be in day care and be told that she smiled, crawled or walked while I was in the office… so I decided that I would create a website and sell crystals that way I could work from home and not miss one of those delicious moments.
What’s been your biggest challenge in business?
Being everyone from sales, marketing, content writer, packer, admin to accounts and doing everything myself while raising little 3 kids (I had 3 under 4yrs) at home without boundaries of work time / home time… I never stopped. Total burn out with no sleep!
How have you overcome it?
They have all just started being at the same school and catching the bus together which is totally liberating for me! While they were little I just did whatever I could, whenever I could around them and their needs. I had to bide my time really. Now they are all at school I have 5 hours a day where I get to be productive while they are not home – which is good for my soul. I really enjoy silence it means I can hear my own guidance.
What’s been your proudest business moment?
There are a few – my 1st sale – meant that this business idea of mine could work. When I ranked no1 on google for the term ‘crystals’ and when I hit 40000 visitor per month to my site. Helping ladies fall pregnant, getting babies to sleep, giving sensitive people back their freedom to go out in public – because I recommended crystals and did healings for them. They were pretty awesome moments.
What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?
Focus on the possibilities; that way you will always find a way.
What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?
I meditate with my crystals and I walk the coast line of Byron Bay.
What was the last treat you bought for yourself?
A gorgeous set of ‘Elspeth McLean’ hand painted stones with mandalas on them.
Favourite colour: Lime Green
Favourite flowers: Frangipanis
What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new mumpreneur?
You can have anything you want. Start with the end in mind and reverse engineer so you are set up from the start with the dream business always in mind. Get coaching, tech help or support from people who know more than you and are already where you want to be so they can help you grow into your dream faster.
