Monday Mumpreneur with Caroline Driver

caroline-driver-Family photoEvery Monday we feature a mumpreneur just like you and me who’s ready and willing to open up their lives and their business to us.

They share with us their motivation, their challenges and their proudest moments in business and they also tell us how they take time to nurture themselves.

If you’re looking for inspiration, then our featured business mums show you what’s possible.

This week's business mum identified a problem that frustrates parents and infants everywhere and came up with an ingenious and simple solution!  She's now raising awareness so that every mum can avoid this common hazard, make her life easier and end tiny tears.

Your name: Caroline Driver

It’s a hectic life with three under 5’s! Never a quiet moment, but that’s what makes it all the more enjoyable! Nicholas is 4, Lois is 3 and Vincent is 17-months.

Where do you live? Trowell, Nottingham, UK

Infasense Ltd create sensible products for infants.  The first of our range to launch is the Justafit adjustable onesie (sleepsuit, if you prefer). I designed the Justafit after becoming frustrated by ill-fitting onesies.

Our family health visitor alerted me to the hazards posed by the excess fabric that would gather to cause ‘flipper feet’ as my children began to move around independently.

The Justafit adjustable onesie provides a simple solution to this problem; the adjustable ankle and wrist details keep the feet and hands where they’re supposed to be ensuring no more trips, slips or messy cuffs.

What motivated you to become a mumpreneur?

Having three young children opens your world to a myriad of issues; you quickly identify flaws in the way certain products have been designed and you also start to recognise problems for which there isn't a marketed solution.

This is really how it all began for me, the Justafit was a practical solution to a challenge my family, like so many others, face every day. Another motivation has been to spend time with my children as they grow. Running my own business has provided the added benefit of being able to work around the family, unlike in a conventional work environment.

I would also dearly love to make my children as proud of me as I am of my own parents.

What’s been your biggest challenge in business?

Not having enough hours in the day! Our Justafit is a solution to a genuinely common problem; it improves on a baby wardrobe essential! Raising awareness to ensure people know the Justafit exists to make their lives easier is a challenge and very time consuming.

How have you overcome it?

By enjoying what I am doing, it is a business but also a ‘hobby’.

What’s been your proudest business moment?

It took 18-months of product design, development and testing to finally arrive at this point. I would undoubtedly say that receiving the first batch of the end product made me very proud of this achievement.

What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?

Don’t do tomorrow what you can do today!

What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?

Every spare moment is spent with my children. I love watching them learn by exploring, walking our dog, or reading together.

What was the last treat you bought for yourself?

A beautiful new dress for my sister’s wedding.

Favourite colour: Green

Favourite flowers: Bluebells

What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new mumpreneur?

Be prepared to put in a lot of hard work. This is made so much easier if you enjoy what you are doing!
