Monday Mumpreneur with Patricia Talavera
Every Monday we feature a mumpreneur just like you and me who’s ready and willing to open up their lives and their business to us.
They share with us their motivation, their challenges and their proudest moments in business and they also tell us how they take time to nurture themselves.
If you’re looking for inspiration, then our featured business mums show you what’s possible.
I'm delighted to introduce you to this week's featured biz mum who inspires us by reminding us that when we put energy into our dreams, amazing things happen.
Your name: Patricia Talavera
Tell me about your children
My husband Boshwell and I have one daughter, Isabelle. She turned 2 in December, she decided to make her appearance just around the time I was due to take my finals for my Master's degree and she's been keeping me on my toes ever since.
Where do you live?
I live in Fort Washington MD. US
PC or Mac?
We have both but I prefer PC.
Tell us about your business
We combine our love of technology & marketing to help women entrepreneurs make the most of their online real estate (including their website & social media). We know what needs to be done to turn your website into a lead generating machine and we also know HOW to do it. We combine strategy and technology to make marketing easier.
What motivated you to become a mumpreneur?
I decided to start my own business after being told that I couldn't possibly find a job that I enjoyed, make the kind of money I wanted to make, and still be there for my family. I realized, that's probably true as long as I work for someone else, so I decided to create my own job lol.
What’s been your biggest challenge in business?
Stepping outside of my comfort zone. I've heard the saying, "if you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten" and I know that if I want to go big this year, it's going to take some huge steps. So I have to keep reminding myself that extraordinary results mean that I have to do something extraordinary to get there.
How have you overcome it?
Most of my hesitation comes from fear, so I surround myself with supportive, like minded women. I also have several biz bff's who hold me accountable when I get tempted to keep playing small. Having a supportive husband really helps as well, he's contributed a lot of his talent to my business and he's been my biggest cheerleader since the start.
What’s been your proudest business moment?
When we successfully relaunched as Save Your Time Biz Solutions. It was a lot of work, but when we were done, I felt like everything was more in line with what we wanted the company to be, and the kind of work that we wanted to be doing.
What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?
The struggle you're in today, is developing the strength you need for tomorrow
What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?
I listen to music, or I read. Sometimes it's nice to just zone out, and I get a lot of great ideas when I actually let myself relax.
What was the last treat you bought for yourself?
I'm not sure, but I'm getting ready to buy myself a phone case that says "Act like a lady, think like a boss".
Favourite colour
It changes every time someone asks me, but the popular answer is probably pink.
Favourite flowers
Roses, mostly because I associate them with a lot of happy memories.
What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new mumpreneur?
Miracles start to happen when you give as much energy to your dreams as you do your fears. Don't quote me on that, I didn't come up with it lol. But I do think it's very fitting. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the worst that can happen is that a promotion doesn't work out, I don't close the sale, etc. But if I don't even try, I'm definitely not going to get the results I want. I know it's easier said than done, but believe me when I say that if you start putting that energy towards creating your dreams, rather than thinking about what could go wrong, amazing things start to happen.
