Monday Mumpreneur with Suzannah Butcher
Every Monday we feature a mumpreneur who’s ready and willing to open up their lives to us. They share with us their motivation, challenges and proudest moments in business and they also tell us how they take time to nurture themselves. It’s lovely to have them here at Mums Got A Business and we hope you enjoy connecting with them too.
This week's mum has created a successful business by supporting, empowering and inspiring other business mums by sharing her wisdom from her many entrepreneurial adventures. And she's not afraid to share what hasn't worked along with what has.

Brief description:
Work for Mums Ltd.
One of the most popular websites in the UK providing jobs for mums, flexible opportunities and work from home options, Work for Mums was launched in 2013. In addition to jobs, there are also a wide range of useful resources for mums returning to the workplace, including articles about childcare, job interviews and careers, along with a free CV creator and career MOT.
Super Mums Business Club
Super Mums Business Club is an online membership platform for mums running a small business. Running Work for Mums has given me the skills and knowledge needed to run a successful online business, so I’m delighted to be sharing that knowledge with my club members.
How many children do you have?
Josef Age 9 and Seren Age 7
Where do you live?
I live in Torquay, Devon; a short walk away from the sea.
PC or Mac?
PC – I love my Dell XPS.
Tell us about your business
I’ve had an amazing business journey so far and I'm not ashamed to admit some of my ventures did flop! My business ventures have been like relationships; some you look back on fondly, whereas others you wonder ‘what was I thinking?’ I hold my hands up to being a business butterfly in the past. I have been distracted by Shiny Object Syndrome and being an entrepreneurial type, I’m always coming up with ideas…so many ideas. Nowadays I recommend sticking to one thing you are good at and that you love!
I love helping mums find a new job or career with Work for Mums and it's brilliant that so many talented people have helped me to grow the site by offering guest articles or giving up their time to partner with us.
I'm really excited to be able to help mums in business too; I know what a struggle it is to start a business and many of us had little or no business skills when we first started out. It can be an isolating experience. Our Super Mums' Facebook community is great for getting advice, feedback and a good old online chinwag.
What motivated you to become a Mumpreneur?
My children and my husband's health issues. I had to create a lifestyle business because I want to be there as much as possible for my children and because my husband has a long-term illness, I often have times where I can't work because I am caring for him.
What’s been your biggest challenge in business?
Time. I'm a terrible procrastinator and get easily distracted.
How have you overcome it?
I work in the evenings where I need to and try to avoid Pinterest – it's addictive!
What’s been your proudest business moment?
Being in the Mums Club Top 100 UK Business mums.
What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?
“Don’t become a victim of yourself. Forget about the thief waiting in the alley; what about the thief in your mind.” — Jim Rohn
What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?
Self-care is so important but often neglected. I go for a walk, have a bath or indulge in some retail therapy.
What was the last treat you bought for yourself?
A creative book and pen from Paperchase. I'm trying to be more creative this year so am drawing more and mind mapping to get my thoughts and ideas onto paper with lots of squiggles and colours!
Favourite colour: Purple
Favourite flowers: Freesias, snowdrops and forget-me-knots. Not technically a flower but I adore Magnolia trees.
What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new Mumpreneur?
Stay positive, stay focussed and NEVER give up!

Brilliant and inspirational, Sue. Btw – I love my Dell XPS too!
I love Jim Rohn. The world lost a good man the day he passed. Thank heavens he left so much of himself behind. The world is a better place for having him in it.
I also love stationary!!! Whenever I need retail therapy, I hit the Dollar Store stationary isle. One can NEVER have too many journals and colored pens\markers!!! hehehe! Don’t you agree???
Warmly Pattie
