How to Grow Your Business with Social Media
I wanted to tell you about the Social Media Success Summit 2011 – it’s the web’s biggest online social media marketing conference and there’s a lot of buzz around it at the moment as it all kicks off on 3rd May and runs until the 26th.
The conference is designed to empower business owners to master social media marketing and it’s not just the likes of me and you that will be there. This conference is attended by: American Express, Staples, Microsoft, Harvard, Ben & Jerry’s and Disney to name but a few.
And why? Because they all want to learn how to use the fastest growing marketing platforms on the planet and they want to learn from the people who are doing it right.
One of these people is Michael Stelzner and his story is amazing . . .
In October 2009, Michael Stelzner started Social Media Examiner, a blog for marketers and small business owners. Almost overnight, his site became one of the top business blogs in the world.
He didn’t advertise, didn’t rely on the press and almost none of his traffic came from search engines.
Slightly more than a year later, his site has more than 57,000 email subscribers, over 31,000 Facebook fans, half a million page views a month, and has generated nearly $2 million in sales.
Everything he does focuses on delivering high-quality content coupled with intelligent social media marketing.
Isn’t that amazing? I want that for my business and I want that for your business too.
Just think about this: Our customers are using social media every day and that’s where we can communicate with them, build relationships with them and get to know exactly what they need so that we can offer the products and services that are right for them.
Learning how to use social media as an effective business tool is also a great way to cut out the middleman and costly advertising and to directly connect with our audience.
This summit may be just what we need!
Michael has brought together twenty-three of the world’s leading social media superstars to be the summit instructors including:
Jeremiah Owyang (Altimeter Group)
Guy Kawasaki (author, Enchantment)
Brian Solis (author, Engage)
Frank Eliason (Citigroup)
Mari Smith (co-author, Facebook Marketing)

As I was reading your post Heather I was thinking ‘Wow those dates are tough, where is this event being held?’ I love the fact that I can attend from my computer, wherever I am and the conference is spread out over 4 weeks . It’s also being recorded… that’s a bonus. So, I’m wondering – have you signed up? Did you attend last year’s event? If so, what did you think?
I’m definitely considering attending and I really appreciate the heads up. This is the first I’ve heard of it. Thank you!
~Theresa
p.s. Michael’s story is amazing. Very inspirational.

Theresa,
You’re very welcome for the heads up – I only found out about it yesterday and wanted to let everyone know. Isn’t it wonderful that all these great events are easy to attend. Michael’s story really is phenomenal!
I’m very tempted to join in but I’ve already got other things I’m committed to over the next month. Having said that, it’s recorded, so I could sign up and then get to do it at my leisure.
There are so many wonderful events and courses around. I’ve been buying so many things that are sitting in my ‘to-do’ list. I’m trying not to get tempted by the newest shiny object lol.
Like all these offerings, you know if it feels right for you then it’s the right time to get it. Have fun

I attended the Social Media Success Summit last year and it was brilliant. I discovered some brilliant people like Denise Wakeman (The Blog Squad) and Lewis Howes (LinkedIn). Mari Smith is always fabulous, I did her Quick Start To Twitter and Facebook in 2009 and I find her inspirational. I am also a big fan of Jay Baer and Guy Kawasaki. I still refer back to the recordings and transcripts from last year’s Summit. I booked in as soon as the dates were set. I am really looking forward to this year’s one. Thank you Heather for sharing the news of the Summit.

No question about it, Heather — Micheal Stelzner puts on amazing social media events! I’ve loved his blog since the day it launched and he gets the most interesting guest bloggers.
Isn’t it incredible he didn’t do any advertising or rely on SEO for visibility back in 2009? Just goes to show “word-of-mouth” advertising is and always will be the best and most effective form of advertising.
A $600 event in not currently in my budget but I’m certain it’s worth every single penny. Last year there were opportunities to win a ticket to “Social Media Success Summit” so I’m keeping my fingers crossed and staying on the lookout for those same opportunities this year.
The topics, presenters, and sponsors for Michael’s 2011 event are top notch.
Thanks for sharing the details!

Melanie,
I’m just blown away by Michael’s story.
Just goes to show what you and I believe in really does work.
I can just feel that momentum picking up more and more each day.
It’s worth all the effort (in fact – it doesn’t feel like effort – it’s so much fun 😉
I’ll keep a lookout too for those tickets too – I’m sure there’s one with your name on it.
