Hi Jessica, welcome to Mum's Got a Business ...

Tell me about your children:

I have an almost 16 year old daughter, Maya, and a son, Tosh, who just turned 11.

Where do you live?

I live in a small town called Aptos (“Ap-toss”) near Santa Cruz, California in the States.

PC or Mac?

Mac! But mostly iPhone 😉

Tell us about your business

I am a writer for hire and for pleasure. I have two blogs and I write everything from poetry to press releases, news stories to fiction and anything in between. I am most interested by all things French, bravery, change, mindfulness and going after what it is you really, really want, because I believe it can be done!

What motivated you to become a mumpreneur?

I tried to make my dream to be a full-time writer happen almost ten years ago and I just didn’t stick with it long enough, even though I had gained a little bit of traction. It took me a long time to get to the point where I was ready to try again - and I am all in this time. Fly or fall, I’m going for it!

What’s been your biggest challenge in business?

Honestly, for me my #1 issue historically has been self-confidence. Now my biggest challenge is I have so many ideas I sometimes overwhelm myself! 😉

How have you overcome it?

The confidence issue has taken a lot of time and effort, but the first step was leaving my very unhealthy marriage. Since then I have made progress by leaps and bounds with the help of a good therapist, patient and understanding friends and a loving and supportive (new) partner!

What’s been your proudest business moment?

My first check from my first copywriting client!

What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?

“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”
― Arundhati Roy

What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?

We just recently moved and I love to sit on the back deck with a glass of rosè and watch the hummingbirds flit about.

What was the last treat you bought for yourself?

A little pair of golden Eiffel Tower earrings.

Favourite colour

hot pink!

Favourite flowers

Lately, orange roses.

What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new mumpreneur?

Take naps when you can. Really, they are good for you and they encourage creativity!
