Monday Mumpreneur with Ali Baker
Every Monday we feature a mumpreneur just like you and me who’s ready and willing to open up their lives and their business to us.
They share with us their motivation, their challenges and their proudest moments in business and they also tell us how they take time to nurture themselves.
If you’re looking for inspiration, then our featured business mums show you what’s possible.
I am so delighted to introduce you to our featured business mum this week. After following her own intuition and fulfilling a life long dream to walk the Camino, she now supports others to really listen to their heart and follow their own inner knowing. She really is the queen of getting out of her comfort zone and she inspires and empowers her clients to do just the same.
Your name: Ali Baker
Tell me about your children
Saskia and Thea, 11, identical twins who make me laugh and remind me to not take life too seriously
Where do you live?
Life brought me to a mountain village in the French Alpes above Grenoble in 2010, but originally from the Yorkshire Dales with time in Sheffield and Cumbria
PC or Mac?
Converted to Mac in 2012 and love it!
Tell us about your business
My new business is as a coach to empower yourself. I want to help women in particular live the life they really want whether as women, mamas or in their work. My get up and walk coaching style is that everything is possible, if you really believe that is right for you. When we think like this life gets easier, things stop getting in the way and we get stuff done, often easily, but we need to believe in ourselves, get rid of limiting beliefs and fulfil our dreams with concrete action.
What motivated you to become a mumpreneur?
Firstly the flexibility it offered with small children appealed to me greatly, followed by the realisation that I can have a life created by myself using my talents to help others. Now I want to show my girls that they too can be in business if they want to be and have a family. It's not an either/or question or one of working very long hours for somebody else. We all have so many talents and skills that the world needs.
What’s been your biggest challenge in business?
Procrastination combined with too many ideas and not enough action!
How have you overcome it?
I've joined several online groups and found people to support me. When we share our experiences, stories and feelings we reduce their impact in our lives. Stopping the chatter in our heads by sort it out much quicker than simply turning it over in our minds
What’s been your proudest business moment?
Receiving two messages from people I'd coached saying they'd landed a £40,000 contract for their training consultancy and the other had doubled the jewellery prices on her Etsy shop after our empowering coaching session. Both of them were no longer doubting their abilities or getting stuck in excuses to not move forward.
What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?
There is always a solution
What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?
Self care is a big priority for me after several years of neglect, so yoga, dancing, walking, playing loud music and reading, which I do on a weekly basis.
What was the last treat you bought for yourself?
Candles, flower essence room sprays and rolls of fancy sticky tape to decorate my journals
Favourite colour: Red
Favourite flowers: Primroses
What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new mumpreneur?
Trust your intuition, tune in, listen, turn up and find ways to SUPPORT yourself as a Mum AND an entrepreneur.
