Monday Mumpreneur with Nicola Mills-Wierda
Every Monday we feature a mumpreneur who’s ready and willing to open up their lives and their business to us.
They share with us their motivation, their challenges and their proudest moments in business and they also tell us how they take time to nurture themselves.
If you’re looking for inspiration, then our featured business mums show you what’s possible.
What really touched me about this week's lovely mumpreneur is how she held on to her business dream and made it a reality over twenty years later. What an amazing inspiration.

Tell us about your business
I sell handmade, hand tempered luxury couverture Belgian chocolate letters and numbers which I make from my home. The letters and numbers weigh approx. 100g each and are available in either milk, white or plain with a variety of decorations. They are ideal as a birthday present, stocking filler, children's party bag favour and wedding favour....or just as a treat!
What motivated you to become a mumpreneur?
Since I was sixteen years old I have wanted to run some sort of food business, I am now 39 years old, so its taken a while! After Catering College and University my direction changed for a while, then I had my children and wanted to work from home and around the children's lives. I saw a gap in the market for my product in this country and so my business began.
What’s been your biggest challenge in business?
Finding the time to take the business where I would like it to go.
How have you overcome it?
By taking a day at a time and making the most of any spare time I have to gain new business/attend markets, conduct research etc.
What’s been your proudest business moment?
Having my chocolate letters being stocked in a prestigious gift shop in Glasgow.
What’s your catchphrase or favourite quote?
'Do what you like and find out whether it is compatible' - Sergiu Celibidache/Russian Conductor
What do you do to relax or nurture yourself?
I love to cycle and I like to potter in the garden. I adore the outdoors.
What was the last treat you bought for yourself?
A new red purse.
Favourite colour: Red
Favourite flowers: Gerberas
What one piece of advice would you like to give to a new mumpreneur?
Keep your dream alive, by day dreaming, visualising, writing, researching and talking about it. I know my family and friends have heard me talk about my ideas for so many years, it has been brilliant to finally start my own business.

Gina,
Nicola’s chocolate letters and numbers are lush. She very kindly sent some for Zoe’s birthday and we all enjoyed them 🙂 x
You are so right about keeping your dream alive. It might take a while, but if you hold in there, your dream and your passion will see you through. Good luck with the website and I hope you go from strength to strength xxxx
Caroline,
Isn’t that an amazing and hope giving story – I love that she never gave up her dream too. It’s never too late xx
Lovely to have you here as our featured biz mum of the week Nicola. Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sure it will inspire those of us already in business and maybe those holding their own dreams and thinking of taking the step into self employment. Best wishes xx
