Nurturing Nudge: Take a 5 Minute Holiday!
It's coming to the end of our Spring Break here in South West Scotland, but I know for some of you, you're right in the middle of the holiday. I've noticed a lot of mummy bloggers just haven't been online this week as they try to take some time off with the family.
That's wonderful if you can do it - but for many of us it's a mad juggle. So, with my therapist/stress management consultant head on, I've come up with a little bit of 'Me Time' for you. It takes just 5 minutes and you can do it just about anywhere.
If what you really feel you need is to sit on a desert island all by yourself for a while, then you don't have to worry about the expense or time or who's going to mind the kids. We can do it all in our heads!
When it all gets too much - treat yourself to a virtual holiday ~ Here's how:
FACT: The nervous system does not differentiate between a real and a vividly imagined event
ACTION: When life gets too stressful, choose one of the following:
1. Imagine sunbathing on an exotic beach, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, feeling the sand beneath your body and hearing the waves lapping on the shore.
2. Imagine sitting on top of a hill on a warm summer’s day with a cool breeze blowing through your hair, just gazing out at the miles of countryside around you, listening to the quiet.
3. Imagine sitting in a beautifully tranquil garden, surrounded by exquisite plants and fragrant flowers, watching the sun dancing on the water of your private pool.
4. Or choose your own favourite place
Carry out this exercise for 5 minutes whenever you feel the need and when you return you can feel as though you have just been on holiday, and as far as your nervous system is concerned, you HAVE.
Enjoy, and let me know how you get on . . .
Awesome post, Heather! I’m amazed at how much better I feel after taking that break. I’m doing the Chopra Center 21-day meditation challenge, too, so this is my second time meditating today.

Lovely, Heather — I felt soothed just reading this.
And the next time a mompreneur tells me a much-needed vacation is too expensive, I’m going to send her here to “Heather’s Resort and Spa”! 🙂
Now if only I can get two dogs to be quiet and cooperate while I take five minutes to mentally escape to the beach. 😉

This is lovely! Simple and just lovely! I am going on a holiday today.. when I am done with this comment. My bags are packed and I am ready to travel! This is just such a
helpful idea to take a break and put our energy and focus on ourselves for 5 minutes.. who can argue with not having 5 minutes. I may take your idea to the bathtub with me and make it 10 or 15 minutes!! (that may work for you Melanie.. take in some tunes and turn it way up to drown the sound of the doggies!).
Thank you Heather! You have given a gift that will keep on giving!
xoxo

Helen,
I love that – a gift that will keep on giving!
None of my clients can argue with this – it’s only 5 minutes – I say to them “Look me in the eye and tell me you’re not worth 5 minutes!” – works every time!
So important to keep my strategies simple and quick (mums don’t have much time and mumpreneurs even less lol).
Enjoy your travels ladies.
